As ITEC’s most comprehensive and holistic initiative, it supports at-risk youth by creating a safe, nurturing environment where they can build confidence, resilience, and the skills needed for long-term success.
From her very first day, Almaz connected to tennis and the caring coaches and peers who have become her second family.

Tournament Information
Our inaugural, flagship Singles tennis tournament. This October, at Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club, players of all levels will come together at the Rafaela's Angels Tennis Invitational to compete with a purpose — 100% of tournament registration fees and merchandise sales will support girls empowerment for at-risk youth through the Rafaela's Angels tennis scholarship at the Israel Tennis & Education Centers (ITEC).
What is Rafaela's Angels?
Started by Justin & Yael Segal in honour of their daughter, Rafaela, Rafaela's Angels provides annual scholarships to the Israel Tennis & Education Centers (ITEC) for at-risk girls in Israel, living below the poverty line. Tennis has given so much to Justin & Yael in terms of friendships, wellness, fulfillment, and happiness. To give back, they wanted to make organized tennis programming accessible to kids in Israel who otherwise would not be able to participate. Since its inception in 2024, Rafaela's Angels has granted scholarships to four girls in Israel who are part of ITEC's Girls Empowerment program.

How do I enter?

How much does it cost to enter?
To enter the Rafaela's Angels Tennis Invitational, we kindly request a $50 donation to Rafaela's Angels. After you donate, you will receive a tax receipt via email from the Israel Tennis & Education Centers Foundation.
What levels are there?
There are three Men's and Women's divisions: Grand Slam (think 5.0+), Tour (think 3.5+), and Challenger (think 2.5+).
Is this tournament open to anyone?
For logistical purposes, the Rafaela's Angels Tennis Invitational is only open to members of Vancouver Lawn Tennis & Badminton Club. However, next year, we are hoping to open it up to more participants.
Match Play
Open to Van Lawn members only, the Rafaela's Angels Tennis Invitational is a "schedule your own match, report your score" style tournament with incredible prizes and—most importantly—supporting at-risk girls to develop skills, confidence, and friendships through the beautiful sport of tennis.
What is the tournament format?
Each player will be randomly assigned an opponent within their division. Like a ladder, players must schedule a match against their opponent within a one-week period, and report their score to tournament staff. Winners move on, whereas loser in the first round play a consolation match. Try to schedule your match within a week of finding out who your opponent is.
Is the tournament Singles or Doubles?
There are enough Doubles tournaments at Van Lawn! Singles — get your cardio ready!
Is there deuce?
Yes there's definitely deuce. We hate no-ad scoring. We would never do a tournament without deuce.
How long do I have to schedule my match?
Ideally, try to play your match and report your score within one week of the draws being posted. We know life happens, so if you need a bit longer just reach out to the tournament staff.
Are there consolation matches?
Yes. If you aren't fortunate enough to win your first-round match, consolation matches will be offered. And you will e rewarded.
Consolation Champions will receive a $50 gift card to Nammos Estatorio (from our Presenting Sponsors at Nammos Estatorio) and one bottle of Vanessa Vineyard wine (from our Supporting Sponsors at Vanessa Vineyard).
